what is a postpartum doula?

The importance of deep rest during the postpartum period is recognised in many cultures; taking care of the newborn mother as she heals & adjusts to her new role. But for the most part, within western culture, the respect & time that we give to this time is very little, expecting women to ‘bounce back’ & get straight back the life as normal. My role as your postpartum doula, is to enable you to slow down & reclaim this sacred time, transitioning to your new role in the most gentle way possible.

The hazy postpartum days are a delicate time. I’ll walk alongside you, adapting to your individual needs; supporting you in understanding the changes your body is going through; enabling you to rest, so that you are able to remain cocooned in your nest until the time feels right to emerge & offering a non-judgemental listening ear.

I provide support by visiting you in your early postpartum, preparing warm, nourishing foods, gentle massage & signposting to evidence-based information & trusted local practitioners, as & when things come up for you.

Rest, warmth, nutrition, bodywork & community are key to your healing journey. Throughout my time supporting you, I’ll work with these five pillars of postpartum wellness, nourishing you as your nurture your baby.

In-Person Postpartum
Support

It takes a village to raise a child, but for many of us this is no longer the way we live. We are dispersed from family & no longer live in close communities.

As your postpartum doula I am instinctive and responsive, working out what you need before you even voice it. I’ll protect the motherbaby dyad, bring you tea, prepare your meals, run you warm herbal baths & hold your baby if you ask me to, while you take a shower or grab a much needed nap.

I’ll be your village.
