held:
Building a strong Foundation for your Sovereign Birth
You've read the books. Maybe you've even done a hypnobirthing course. But somewhere underneath all the information, there's still a question you can't quite shake: How do I make sure the decisions being made are actually mine?
That's the foundation held is built to give you back.
Sovereign birth isn't about controlling every outcome, no one can promise you that. It's about walking into labour standing fully in your own body, your own knowledge and your own authority, so that whatever unfolds, it unfolds with you at the centre of the decision-making.
This isn't another download of facts about labour. It's four weeks of real, held coaching with a birth professional who has spent the last 6 years in the room with women preparing for natural, physiological births and navigating it all from an empowered place.
held enables you to build, call by call, the foundation you'll stand on.
what is held?
held is a 4-week birth preparation coaching journey, delivered as one call a week. Each week lays down another layer of the foundation, moving from the physiological, to discernment, to your own vision, to what comes after.
-
How labour actually works physiologically, and why your nervous system is the ground everything else is built on.
-
Recognising the normal, wild variations of birth and knowing, calmly and clearly, what's a true emergency and what isn't. Sovereignty starts with knowing the difference.
-
Turning everything you've learned into a birth preferences plan that's actually yours, plus the practical tools to carry it out on your terms.
-
Carrying that same sense of authority and self-trust into postpartum, so the foundation doesn't end when the birth does. Because as a doula, I know so much time is poured into preparing for birth, we often forget to allow time for what comes next.
Why ‘held’?
Sovereignty doesn't mean going at it alone. As a doula, holding is what I do and paradoxically, being well held is often what makes it possible to stand in your own authority. I hold space in the birth room, I hold the rollercoaster of emotions that pregnancy and birth can bring, I hold information so you're not carrying all of it by yourself, and I hold you through every call, so that you feel safe to ask questions and build on your vision for birth.
You already hold all the wisdom inside you, but somewhere along the way cultural and personal limiting beliefs can alter the trust we have in our bodies. Throughout this journey, I’ll hold you as you explore what it means to claim the birth you want and go into birth confidently knowing how to navigate the nhs and stand in your sovereignty… regardless of what comes up.
This isn't a generic birth course. It's coaching from someone who has spent years supporting birth, walking alongside families preparing for natural, physiological births, and navigating the twists and turns that can arise; bringing everything learned in that time directly into your four calls.
“Sophia was instrumental in helping us prepare for birth; guiding us through the maternity system, helping us understand our rights, and encouraging us to trust our instincts. Because of her, we felt informed and confident to advocate for what we needed, and my partner felt clear in his role too.”
Liz, previous birth client
Is held for you?
held is for you if:
You're drawn to natural, physiological birth and want to feel genuinely sovereign in it and you want that same self-trust to hold if birth takes an unexpected turn.
This work is rooted in reclaiming birth in its natural, physiological form and that can be applied regardless of where you’re planning to birth. Whether you're planning a home birth, a birth centre, a hospital birth, or a caesarean, the foundation you build here is yours in any setting.
You want more than a scripted course; you want a coach who helps you find your own answers, not hand you someone else's.
You're pregnant and want dedicated, personal support that builds real self-trust, not just a checklist.
You want a soundboard to run alongside your nhs appointments as they often feel rushed and lack depth.
You want your postpartum experience to carry the same sense of ownership as your birth.

A sovereign birth is one where you remain the author of your own experience; informed, self-trusting, and at the centre of every decision, whatever shape your birth ends up taking. It's not about achieving a particular outcome; it's about how grounded and in-your-own-authority you feel while it unfolds.
-
Honestly, whenever you feel ready. There's no single right week to begin, and I'd rather you start when it feels like the right moment than by a deadline. Some of what we work through together isn't just information, it's years of conditioning about what birth "should" look like, and that kind of unpacking happens in its own time. If you're wondering whether it's too early or too late, it isn't… get in touch and we'll figure out what makes sense for where you are.
-
Yes, birth partners are very welcome on the live calls. Each week we’ll discuss valuable tools that will support your birth partner to step into their role confidently.
-
Part of building a sovereign foundation is holding your vision and your flexibility at the same time. Week 2 is built specifically around this, so that unexpected turns feel easier to navigate, rather than derailing. Sovereignty isn't about controlling the outcome; it's about staying present and informed no matter what happens.
FAQs
-
This is about building your own sense of authority and understanding, whatever kind of birth you're planning; hospital, home, birth centre, with an epidural in the plan or not. A sovereign birth isn't defined by the setting or the interventions used; it's defined by how informed and grounded you feel through it.
-
Hypnobirthing courses are typically a fixed script of relaxation and breathing techniques. Held is coaching, it includes physiological and nervous-system education, but it's built around your specific fears, history and vision, shaped week to week by an experienced doula rather than delivered as a standard course.
-
Many people come to this work after a previous birth that didn't go the way they hoped. The four calls can be shaped to work directly with that. Week 1, in particular, often does a lot of quiet repair work around trust in your body.
-
You'll leave with a completed birth preferences plan, a toolkit of practical and nervous-system techniques, evidence-based resources and a postpartum support plan already in place.
